The makers

Mikael Hed founded Jessor & Co. in 2005 as a means to avoid doing real work. Before this he co-founded the mobile games company Rovio Mobile and did a stint as the company's CEO from 2004 to 2005. Now he's writing comics and doing some general management stuff at Jessor & Co, and thinks that people writing about themselves in the third person are right pillocks.

Jaakko Sarno has been drawing comics since he was a kid, but he never imagined comics might one day be his profession. But hey, stranger things have happened, and now Jaakko is the happiest comic book artist at the office. That's what his boss says, anyway.

The Cast

August Jessor is a young police officer, whose first assignment out of police school is to take office as the police chief of the remote town of Spindrift Bay.

Jessor takes his job quite seriously, and is only worried that there might not be serious enough crimes for him to solve in Spindrift Bay. Fortunately for him, some choice cases of delinquency are headed his way, and he will have a chance to prove himself in the times to come.

Mayor Nullfjord is the civil leader of Spindrift Bay. He's been elected to his position by making every imaginable promise to the townspeople. Luckily the electorate has a very short memory, and Mayor Nullfjord is still in power. However, the mayor is very keen to keep all unnecessary rocking of the boat to a minimum, especially when the boat in question is the shaky oarless little dinghy that he's sitting on.

Suspected of loitering, Armand Fishbone has spent the last several years in jail.

Armand has an uncanny ability to sneak out of his cell, to the dismay of police chief Jessor. However, Armand has been known to prod the police in the right direction, if things seem to go awry.

Captain Howie Piquant, or Smoke on the Water, as his friends call him, is the captain of S/S Ponderous Eel, the finest (and only) passenger ferry to and from Spindrift Bay. Captain Piquant knows the seas are like his pockets; they're both blue, and if you drop anything in them, you'll never find it again.

Barius Spøøk was made for stowing. He is as strong as a bull, and approximately as smart as one, too. Spøøk enjoys carrying big boxes from one place to another. Sometimes he stacks crates from one pile to another, and then back again, just for fun.

Granny "Candy" Ash is the master fish pie baker of Spindrift Bay. Mrs. Ash used to work in the whaling fleet back in her day, and has a harpoon cannon on her yard as a keepsake. The townsfolk think Candy is a bit off her rocker, frankly, and would have her put away in a home, if it weren't for her delicious fish pies.

Mike Ash, Granny Ash's grandson, is an entrepreneur down to his fingertips. Any unsellable things you need to get rid of? Call Mike. See those shoes you're wearing? Soon you'll have bought them from Mike Ash (again!)

Because of the ambulating nature of his job, Mike sees and hears a lot of things, and is an important source of information to Jessor.
